Silver Fern

SILVER FERN

The Tree Fern or Ponga is the tallest fern in the New Zealand bush.
The leaf of this tree is one of New Zealand’s best known national symbols.  It has been the country’s sporting emblem since 1888.
The design surrounding this painting of a silver fern is called Koru.  It is representative of the shoot of the fern and has a curled-over tip which unfurls eventually becoming a leaf of the fern.  Koru symbolizes the unfolding of new life, and hope for the future.
